How Much Does It Cost to Sew in Lagos?

Honest ranges rather than a single figure, because the answer genuinely depends on the piece. These are what we charge for the making at our Ikate-Elegushi atelier. Cloth is quoted separately, so you always see what the material costs and what the work costs.

Every commission is confirmed with a written quote at consultation before any cloth is cut.

What moves the price

Hand-finishing. Beading, embroidery and hand-rolled hems are the largest single addition to any quote, and the clearest difference between a piece that looks made and one that looks bought.

Lining and structure. A lined, interfaced jacket is a different piece of work from an unlined one, whatever the cloth costs.

How much cloth the cut eats. A full agbada or a large-repeat print that has to be matched across seams needs materially more cloth than a straight dress.

Fittings. Bridal and tailored menswear take several. Ready-to-wear adjusted to your measurements usually takes none.

Questions we get about price

How much do tailors charge in Lagos?

It varies enormously — a roadside tailor may charge a few thousand naira for a simple gown, while an atelier working to measure with multiple fittings charges from around ₦50,000. What you are paying for at the higher end is pattern-cutting to your measurements, fittings, and finishing that survives washing.

Does the price include fabric?

Our quotes are for the making unless we agree otherwise. If you bring your own cloth you pay for the work only. If we source the cloth for you, it is quoted separately so you can see exactly what the material costs.

What makes one piece more expensive than another?

Four things, roughly in order: how much hand-finishing it needs, whether it is lined, how much cloth the cut consumes, and how many fittings it takes. Beading and embroidery are the biggest single additions.

Do you charge extra for measurements taken remotely?

No. Virtual fittings and remote measurement cost the same as coming into the atelier. Shipping is quoted separately based on destination.

How much deposit do you take?

We confirm the deposit at consultation, once the piece and the cloth are agreed.
